OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — A duck stuck 40 feet above the ground in the backstop netting of a high school baseball field was fortunate that Olympia, Washington, firefighters were willing to come to the rescue with their 100-foot ladder.

KING-TV says David Supensky of For Heaven's Sake Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation grabbed a ladder when he got a call, but it was too short.

He says the firefighters cut the netting at Capitol High School, put the bird in a crate and brought it down Sunday.

Supensky says the bird had some wing abrasions. His wife removed the netting and kept the bird overnight. He released it in a nearby park the next day.
