Utah Officials Approve Longer Season For Waterfowl Hunting

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Utah Wildlife Board has approved a higher bag limit and a longer duck and goose hunting season for this fall.

KSL-TV reports that the Wildlife Board approved a 107-day hunting season with a daily bag limit of seven ducks and four Canada geese.

Officials say that though the maximum is seven, the number of canvasback, hen mallard, pintail, redhead and scaup ducks in the seven-duck daily bag limit will likely be limited. The season will likely only run for 86 days.

Division of Wildlife Resources migratory game bird coordinator Blair Stringham said the bag limits are calculated using guidelines from species management plans and based on how the population is doing.

By August, the DWR will know if the Board recommendations fall within Wildlife Service guidelines.
