PEPIN, Wis. (AP) — Authorities have charged a western Wisconsin man who they say attacked a squirrel hunter near his property.

Forty-three-year-old Kevin Elberg is charged with aggravated battery with intended bodily harm and false imprisonment following the November incident near Pepin.

Sao Lue Vang says he was separated from his friends while hunting and accidentally wandered onto Elberg's land. The 64-year-old says Elberg accused him of trespassing and pushed his knee into Vang's stomach before taking his rifle.

Vang was taken to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester with life-threatening injuries including a lacerated liver.

Elberg says he didn't hurt Vang but restrained him after Vang pointed a gun at Elberg. Vang denies that happened.

Authorities say they waited to file charges while sorting through the conflicting stories.

Online court records didn't indicate an attorney for Elberg.
