Sturgeon spearing is a time-honored tradition on Wisconsin’s Lake Winnebago system, and on Feb. 8, 2025, 22-year-old Haley Hergiz speared her first one — and not only was it a fish of a lifetime, but it is the fourth largest sturgeon to ever be taken on the lake.
Haley, who’s been sturgeon spearing for 6 years, told FOX11 News, "It was very exciting, did not feel real.”
Herzig says that she and her boyfriend, Charles Loehr, plan to smoke or deep-fry the sturgeon meat. They also plan to spend money on taxidermy, too.
"We're probably going to get a replica for her and hang it up in the house because it's, I mean it's a memory that'll never be forgotten," Loehr told FOX11 News.
