Winchester has issued a recall of some of its .22LR ammunition that the company says was loaded with double powder charges and could result in serious personal injury or death to shooters should the rounds malfunction.
According to Winchester, 500 and 1000-round boxes of its M22 22LR 40-grain Black Copper Plated Round Nose rimfire ammo with lot numbers GD42L and GD52L are at risk.
"To determine if your ammunition is subject to this notice, review the Symbol Number and Lot Number," Winchester says. "If it is Symbol Number S22LRT with a Lot Number containing GD42L or GD52L immediately discontinue use and contact Winchester ... for free UPS pick-up of the recalled ammunition."
The M22 rimfire ammunition is specifically designed for AR-style .22 rifles, so the bad lots of ammo pose a significant risk to shooters who operate their semi-auto rifle with the defective ammo from exploding bolts to cooked-off rounds.
