Hollywood may be showcasing archery on the big screen in yet another film franchise. The International Business Times is reporting that young Jean Grey, played by Sophie Turner, may use archery equipment in X-Men: Apocalypse, which is set to be released in May 2016. Director Bryan Singer posted a photo on his Instagram feed captioned “Teaching young #JeanGrey @sophiet what I learned in summer camp. #Xmen #XmenApocalypse.”

If true, this would be a refreshing change for Sophie Turner, known for her portrayal of the naïve Sansa Stark on Game of Thrones. And the depiction of another strong young woman shooting a bow could bolster the women-in-archery trend that gained momentum thanks to blockbusters like The Hunger Games and Brave.
It will be interesting to see if the young Jean Grey possesses the same powers as her future self, namely telekinesis and telepathy, and how those powers might be used to help her archery skills. If a telekinetic Jean Grey does wield a bow in the upcoming X-Men film, she could be living out the fantasy of countless archers and bowhunters who wish that they had the ability to alter the flight of an arrow once it’s left the bow.
