To many bowhunters, a bowstring is a bowstring — all are the same. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Let’s review four reasons why you should be shooting a custom bowstring and cable(s).
1. No Peep Twist
I’m amazed every time I see an archer tolerate a crooked peep sight. Either they shoot with it crooked, or they forcibly twist it before drawing back. This leaves so much to chance, especially during a low-light bowhunting encounter. Custom bowstrings are usually built to eliminate rotation while drawn, alleviating the problem.
2. Dial-In Faster
A standard bowstring generally continues to stretch over its life, which causes changes to your tune. Most custom bowstrings feature premium-grade material that’s pre-stretched under great tension. Vapor Trail bowstrings, for example, claims its strings settle in and stay put in “as few as three shots.” I installed a Vapor Trail string on my Hoyt HyperForce this year, and the settle-in period was indeed just a few shots.
3. No Serving Separation
Several serving locations on bowstrings and cables are prone to separation over time and with use — curvy spots on the cams and where the string-loop knots attach. It’s frustrating to buy a new bow and have this happen after a few dozen shots.
Most custom bowstrings and cables are built using meticulous processes that result in ultra-tight servings that are guaranteed not to separate.
4. Improve Your Shooting
Bowstrings that produce crooked peep sights, excessive stretch or serving separation will bridle your accuracy potential. A custom bowstring and cables beat these dilemmas and equip you and your bow to reach next-level consistency. Try them and see.
