As archery deer seasons get rolling across much of North America in September, many bowhunters dream of the craziness that will overtake the whitetail woods in another two months. The November whitetail rut is an intense period when mature bucks will spend many hours on their feet in search of a hot doe, and when they find one, the chase is on!

In the 45-second Facebook video below, Jared Mills is recapping a successful Iowa bowhunt. As he’s explaining the route he took to his treestand along a wet drainage, his interview is interrupted by two rutting bucks chasing a hot doe. Listen close and you’ll hear one of the bucks grunt several times before any deer appear over the bank. (Be sure to turn up the volume of the video.)

Jared hopes to capture video of the chasing — he didn’t know that the doe would turn and head his direction, putting one of the bucks in Jared’s lap. (If you want to see the entire 13.5-minute video that includes the chase, click here.)
