RAYMOND, Wash. (AP) — The Raymond, Washington, owners of a Husky mix dog say someone shot a hunting arrow into their dog's head.

A veterinarian who treated Sampson says it's amazing that the dog is still alive after the arrow went straight in through an eye socket.

KOMO-TV reports that dog owner Laura Bowerman says her two dogs roam free on 30 acres just east of Raymond along the Willapa River. On Sept. 7, the family found Sampson collapsed at the end of their driveway.

An X-Ray showed the arrow went straight back under his brain. In Tacoma, a veterinary neurosurgeon was able to successfully remove it.

Bowerman says it's bow hunting season for deer and elk and even though “no trespassing” signs are posted, the area behind their property is prime for hunting. But she's still amazed that someone would shoot a non-aggressive dog.
