SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Officials with the Box Elder Sheriff's Office say a hunter is recovering after he accidentally dealt a deep cut to his leg while skinning a deer.
Deputy Kevin Potter says the 47-year-old hunter shot a deer in West Promontory on Monday afternoon.
Potter says the hunter hung the deer up and starting skinning it but accidentally cut into his right upper thigh.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports the hunter's guide helped the man bandage his leg and the two headed to find help, eventually meeting up with emergency responders.
The hunter, whose name has not been released, was taken to an Ogden hospital in critical condition but later had his status upgraded to serious.
Potter says the cut was deep and the man lost a lot of blood.
