COVINGTON, Ga. (AP) — Although deer hunting season in south Georgia is coming to an end, Georgia Wildlife Federation officials say there's still time for hunters to participate in the Georgia Hunters for the Hungry program.

Federation spokeswoman Mary Ann Anderson said in a statement that the program allows hunters to donate harvested deer to Georgia food banks after it's processed at state-inspected facilities. Anderson says ground venison is then delivered to food banks throughout the state.

Officials say more than 300,000 pounds of ground venison has been donated to needy families through the program since its inception in 1993.

Officials say hunters may bring deer to 13 locations throughout the state.
