Whenever you’re fishing on lakes or rivers that contain northern pike (above left) or muskies, it’s critical to pack the right tools for unhooking these toothy fish.
In the 3-minute YouTube video below from Lindner’s Angling Edge, fishermen James Lindner and Jake Wallace are targeting walleyes on Pipestone Lake in northwestern Ontario when a trophy northern pike decides to pay a visit. Thankfully, the guys are prepared to handle such a big fish with a good-sized net and the necessary catch-and-release tools.
Pay particular attention to Jake’s tip on doubling up a jaw spreader (above right) so it’s more effective in the powerful jaws of a big fish. He uses electrical tape for attaching one jaw spreader to a second one.
