Firearms Season For Deer Begins In Georgia

SOCIAL CIRCLE, Ga. (AP) — Firearms season for deer began Saturday and wildlife officials say it's likely to be the busiest hunting day of the year.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources says rangers will patrol across the state. They'll be giving people a closer look at what they find through continuous updates on Facebook and Twitter accounts.

The rangers also have a new hotline that the public can use to alert them to any illegal activity, including poaching. They can be contacted by phone at 1-800-241-4113 or by email at RangerHotline@dnr.state.ga.us. The department says the tips are anonymous and could lead to a cash reward if they lead to an arrest.

The department also reminds hunters to be careful to ensure their safety and that of others.
