PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — State environmental officials say a donor has stepped in to replace several archery bows stolen from the Department of Environmental Management's hunter education program last month.
Robert Buonanno, an orthopedic surgeon from Johnston, donated $1,100 to replace the equipment.
Buonanno is also an outdoorsman and runs Deer Creek Farm and lodge in Foster. He says he wants to get young people involved in hunting and fishing, and the state's program is a great way to do that.
The Department of Environmental Management says 12 bows were stolen in June. They found two, but never found the rest.
Officials suspect they may have been sold on Craigslist.
The department is asking anyone who may have inadvertently purchased a stolen bow to call them.
