Hunters Have Until June To Seek Bear, Elk Licenses

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Applications for licenses to hunt elk and bear in Michigan are available through June 1.

The state Department of Natural Resources says 100 elk licenses and 7,831 bear licenses will be offered for this year's hunting seasons.

Only Michigan residents are eligible to apply for an elk license. Bear licenses are available for residents and nonresidents, although no more than 2 percent of licenses in any bear management unit will be issued to nonresidents.

Hunters can apply online at www.michigan.gov, or at any authorized license agent or DNR Customer Service Center.

A nonrefundable $5 fee is charged at the time of application. Hunters may purchase just one bear and one elk application.
