BLOOMFIELD, Conn. (AP) — A bear attack in Bloomfield has left a dog dead.

Police say the black bear who was with three cubs attacked the Husky outside a home on Duncaster Road in Bloomfield.

Gerald Hodgkiss told reporters he rushed his dog Shelby to a veterinarian after the attack, but the dog had a broken neck and could not be saved.

Hodgkiss says the bear and the cubs have been sighted several times in the area, and does not want to see them destroyed.

Police are asking area residents to remove bird feeders, keep all pet food inside and keep trash cans away from the house in a locked garage, shed, or outbuilding if possible.
