A jogger was attacked by a black bear in a forested area near Lake Whatcom in Washington state, state officials say, but did not sustain serious injuries.

An unidentified man in Washington state fought off a bear attack and escaped with minor injuries.

The man, who was not identified, was attacked on August 3 by the bear at approximately 8:30 a.m. on a trail in Whatcom County. He sustained multiple injuries to his hands and feet while defending himself from the bear. The man received medical care at a local hospital and was released on the same day.

State officials returned that evening to the area near where the attack happened. With the help of a bear dog, they located and killed an adult black bear.
