Jay Gregory buck decoy video

Jay Gregory has been producing and hosting The Wild Outdoors TV show for 20-plus years, and in the 10.5-minute YouTube video below, he’s bowhunting whitetails over a cut cornfield in Iowa. The food plot is surrounded by thick cedars, so cruising rutting bucks can suddenly appear from almost anywhere.

To lure a buck within super-close range for his recurve, Jay has placed a DSD Posturing Buck decoy in front of his well-hidden ladder stand, which is only an 8-footer. The video is spectacular because of the many cameras Jay is utilizing, including one on the decoy itself!

One of the best reasons to use a decoy when bowhunting whitetails is a buck’s attention is focused on something other than you, and in this case it works perfectly for Jay. Remember, with a recurve, Jay can’t draw well in advance — like is possible with a compound — and wait for the buck to walk into shooting range. The draw/aim/release with a traditional bow needs to happen when a whitetail is either in a shooting lane or within a split-second of a deer entering a lane.

Pulling it off with a recurve is very difficult, and getting it all on video while self-filming is crazy-good.
