Raccoons are pesky varmints that tend to make a mess of urban areas. One was recently put down in Oakland but animal rights groups aren't happy about it.

The national nonprofit Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF) is offering a $5,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator(s) who shot an adult male raccoon with five aluminum bolt darts from a crossbow in West Oakland.
