In the 7-minute YouTube video below, Jeremy Smith from AnglingBuzz reveals his favorite method of rigging large sucker minnows for fall muskies.
As he explains, the key to catching muskies with livebait is having “lively” bait. The first step to ensure lively bait is choosing good healthy minnows from the bait shop and then taking good care of them. And warning, large lively sucker minnows for muskies aren’t cheap! Depending on supply and demand, the price for a single large sucker minnow can be as high as $15!
Of course, because of the cost and limited supply of these minnows, you want to do everything you can to keep them lively until the moment a musky decides to attack. This means making sure you don't severely injure them with treble hooks while rigging. With this in mind, Jeremy has refined his sucker rigging methods through the years, and his solution relies on rubber bands. It’s a smart system!
Jeremy ends the video with tips on using sinkers, floats (corks) and planer boards on your lines when using suckers for fall muskies to cover water effectively.
