MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A group of protesters plans to shadow wolf hunters in Wisconsin so they can observe their methods.
Wisconsin's third annual wolf hunt began Wednesday. The group, which calls itself the Great Lakes Wolf Patrol, released a statement saying 11 members have set up a camp on public lands in northern Wisconsin. They plan to patrol federal, state and county forest lands searching for wolf hunters and trappers. They say they won't interfere with the hunt, however.
Department of Natural Resources Chief Warden Todd Schaller says the group can legally watch hunters on public land but can't interfere with them. He says hunters who feel threatened should call 911 and hunters who feel they're being harassed should call the DNR.
Patrol members shadowed wolf hunters in Montana earlier this fall.
