Mississippi Expands Squirrel Hunting Season

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A new state law sets Oct. 1 as the starting date for squirrel season statewide, starting this year. It will last five months.

The Clarion-Ledger reports that a new spring season will begin in 2015, with dates and bag limit to be set by the Commission on Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks. The season will start between May 15 and June 1.

Last year, the fall season began around Oct.1 in the northern zone, Oct. 15 in central Mississippi and Oct. 28 in the south.

Gov. Phil Bryant signed the law last week. The new regulations will take effect July 1.
