Cougar Apparently Attacking Dogs Near Cashmere, Washington

CASHMERE, Wash. (AP) — A cougar apparently killed one dog and attacked another in recent days on farms near Cashmere.

Fish and Wildlife Sgt. Dan Klump tells The Wenatchee World hounds were out Tuesday looking for the cougar. A live trap and two wildlife cameras have been set up in the area near the mouth of Brender Canyon.

A 105-pound yellow lab named Zeus was found dead and mostly eaten Saturday in an orchard. Owner Jeff Paton says there have been four cougar sightings at his orchard in the past year.

Klump says another dog was attacked Monday night about 300 yards away. That owner drove the cougar away with a shotgun blast. The dog has puncture wounds to its head and neck but is expected to survive.
