ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia Attorney General Sam Olens' office says Georgians will not be able to carry a weapon on college campuses or in other schools when two new laws go into effect July 1.
The guidance issued Thursday follows questions around two new weapons laws, including House Bill 60 dubbed the “guns everywhere” bill by opponents that allows people to carry in bars and in churches and government buildings with some restrictions. An early version of that proposal allowed permit holders to carry weapons on college campuses but was later removed.
A gun rights group interpreted another law, House Bill 826, as allowing people to carry weapons in school zones. Olens says because Gov. Nathan Deal signed HB 60 last and it maintains a school safety zone, people cannot carry guns in school zones.
