MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — If you've ever wanted to try fishing, next month's your chance.

Vermont's open-water Free Fishing Day takes place on Saturday, June 14.

It's the one day in the summer when anglers can fish without a license in Vermont.

The Fish and Wildlife Department says anglers have a chance at catching brook, brown or rainbow trout, as well as landlocked salmon, largemouth and smallmouth bass, yellow perch, northern pike and other species.

The department says the state has 284 lakes and more than 7,000 miles of clear streams.
