2021 Elite Archery Contingency Program

Elite Archery recently announced an expanded tournament archery contingency program for 2021. Interested competitors can find complete details for the program on the company's website: www.elitearchery.com/contingency-program

"I think it’s safe to say, we’re all anxious to get back to some sort of normalcy,” said Darrin Christenberry, Elite Archery professional shooting staff manager. “Our Elite Team is beyond excited for the 2021 Archery tournament season, and are ready to be back on the shooting line where they’re able to shine. We have some great up-and-coming talent that are eager to get back to competition and put the Elite Rezult 36 to work! We have increased many payouts, and have one of the most competitive Archery Shooters Association (ASA) amateur contingency programs available. We look forward to writing contingency checks and rewarding podium-topping performance.”

Elite has increased the payouts for the Women's Pro division at the ASA. Additionally, Elite is offering payouts for Senior Pros at ASA events. Further expanding the Senior Pro class payments, Elite is offering contingency for that class at select NFAA events.

"With the addition of new Elite technologies, it's easier and faster than ever to get your bow precisely dialed for the way you shoot," Christenberry said. "This year, we're excited to reward Elite shooters of all levels for their participation and success. We look forward to celebrating with you on your podium finishes in 2021!"

Sidebar: Follow the Money

If you’re new to the world of tournament archery, then you might be surprised to learn that in most cases, the contingency money for a podium finish is higher than the purse itself given by the tournament organizer and its sponsors.

For example, if a men’s pro division archer wins an ASA event shooting an Elite bow in 2021, he would get a check from Elite (contingency program money) for $12,500 (see chart above). If he took second place, he’d win $5,000 from Elite; third place would pay $2,000 from Elite.

The purse (not contingency money) is almost always much lower. According to Darrin Christenberry, Elite Archery professional shooting staff manager: “For a professional archer, at one of the ASA events, each archer pays a $300 entry fee; 80% of that ($240) goes toward the tournament purse for that class. Hypothetically, if Open Pro had 40 shooters at an event – 40 shooters paying $300 would be $12,000; 80% of that money would go into the purse ($9,600). The top 20% of the field gets a check, so 40 shooters would pay back eight places.”

Christenberry says that in many cases, the contingency money paid by manufacturers is what entices shooters to choose a particular bow brand.
