Number Of Deer Hunting Licenses Could Be Reduced

BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) — The number of deer hunting licenses available in South Dakota for the upcoming season could be significantly reduced.

Tony Leif is the wildlife director of the state's Game, Fish and Parks. Leif says times are changing when it comes to deer management.

KBRK-AM in Brookings reports that the state for a long time tried to reduce the number of deer across South Dakota. Now, state officials are trying to protect the doe population.

State wildlife officials are expected to present proposals for the upcoming deer seasons to the Game Fish and Parks Commission in May.
