MILLERSBURG, Ohio (AP) — More than 500 deer have been euthanized over the past month in Ohio due to concerns over the spread of a disease.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports the deer were owned by Daniel Yoder, who was arrested on charges of tampering with evidence related to an investigation into how chronic wasting disease came to his property and spread.

Officials say about 270 deer were euthanized last month at Yoder's hunting preserve, but none tested positive for the disease. Officials say problems with the disease likely come from Yoder's deer breeding farm. Both locations are near Millersburg.

About 240 deer at the farm were euthanized this week.

Charges against Yoder were dropped, but prosecutors are letting the state Department of Agriculture investigate before reassessing charges.

Yoder's attorney didn't return a call.
