INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indiana attorney general's office wants the state Court of Appeals to reconcile conflicting opinions by two judges on regulation of confined deer hunting operations.
The state is currently appealing a Harrison County judge's decision throwing out the state's ban on hunting operations where deer are shot in fenced-in enclosures. A separate ruling from Owen County upheld the DNR's authority.
The attorney general's office says in a brief filed Thursday that it wants the Court of Appeals to rule the Department of Natural Resources can regulate such private operations.
A message seeking comment was left at Whitetail Bluff LLC, the confined deer hunting operation named in the state's appeal.
A bill that would have set standards for the hunting operations was defeated this year in the Indiana Senate.
