WATKINSVILLE, Ga. (AP) — Authorities in northeast Georgia have charged two young men with killing a deer in a pasture where it was known to mingle with a farmer's cows.
The Athens Banner-Herald reports the Georgia Department of Natural Resources announced charges in the case eight months after the deer was shot during the night last July in Watkinsville.
Farmer Paul Allen had nicknamed the deer “Bucky.” Passing motorists would often see the deer in Allen's pasture alongside his cows.
The DNR said Thursday two young men, ages 20 and 19, have been charged with hunting at night, hunting game from a public road and hunting from a vehicle. DNR Capt. Mark Padgett noted the deer had also been shot out of season.
