After rumors began spilling out May 15 of a major shakeup at Remington Outdoors, the company officially announced that operations of six of its subsidiary brands would be relocated to a new Remington plant in Alabama.

In February, the company announced it would be opening a new manufacturing facility in Huntsville, Alabama, after a nearly year-long search for a gun-friendly state to continue its expansion into a variety of firearms markets. Founded in Ilion, New York, Remington’s management decided to seek greener pastures after Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo enacted new gun restrictions that make many of Remington Outdoors’ firearms illegal to the state’s residents.

The company says operations from Advanced Armament Co.; DPMS; Montana Rifleman; LAR Manufacturing; Para-Ordnance and Tapco would be pulling up stakes and moving to Huntsville. The company also said Bushmaster and Remington 1911 production lines would be moved to the new Alabama plant.

“Earlier today we announced the consolidation of multiple company plants into our Huntsville, Alabama, facility,” a Remington spokesman told the Outdoor Wire. “This was a strategic business decision to concentrate our resources into fewer locations and improve manufacturing efficiency and quality.”

It is unclear how many employees from the relocated companies will lose their jobs. Reports indicate some of Remington’s workers would be offered opportunities in the new Huntsville facility and other would be given severance packages.

“We are working hard to retain as many from the affected facilities as possible,” Remington said.
