Cake creator Dusty Sinclair shows off her latest masterpiece.

A whitetail wedding cake made by Sugarbelle Sweets in Corpus Christi, Texas, is a true work of art. Sugarbelle Owner Dusty Sinclair made the cake for Mr. and Mrs. Sanchez’s important day, and she used the groom’s biggest buck as her inspiration.

Sinclair said, “Yesterday was one for the books. I got to create a dream cake for some special hunter friends of mine. The groom was surprised by this cake that was a replica of a deer he shot named Thor.”

As the photos here show, the detail in the big buck wedding cake are extraordinary.

“It took me exactly one week to build all the edible parts on the deer’s frame, which I had welded for the neck, head and antlers,” she said. “I built the antlers out of a mixture of gum paste/molding chocolate. All facial features were made with the same, gum paste/molding chocolate. The neck and legs were made from Rice Krispies, and I covered the entire buck’s body with buttercream and then airbrushed it with food coloring.”

One thing that surprised even Sinclair was the cake’s final weight. “What was impressive was how heavy it was,” she said. “The men who helped me carry the finished cake said it was well over 130 pounds.”

If you’re wondering, no, Sinclair didn’t try to replicate venison by making a red velvet cake. “The flavor of the cake was chocolate,” she said, “and the entire deer was edible except for the frame I had built to hold up the antlers.”

Of course, a massive and artistic cake creation like this one doesn’t come cheap. You can call Dusty Sinclair if you’re interested in specifics. Price hint: If you’re thinking it’s similar to a life-size taxidermy mount, then you’re on the right track.
