What do U.S. Navy SEALs do when they retire? It appears they keep doing what they learned during their active team days: strive to improve on what they did the day before.

Retired SEAL Marcus Luttrell, known for his account of Operation Red Wing, Lone Survivor, has teamed with another retired SEAL, Pete Scobell, and ammunition maker KC Betzold to launch a new ammunition company. Appropriately named Team Never Quit, the group intends to bring the same values instilled in them during their active tenure on the SEAL teams.

Accordingly to Luttrell, “Team Never Quit is a concept that started with us. We got out of the teams early, but it wasn’t over for us. Anyone who knows me knows that as an individual, I’m less than nothing. But put me in the middle of a group of guys and tell us to go do something, and that’s when I would spread my wings. It’s all about the team environment.”

During the 2015 NRA Annual Meeting, I had the privilege to meet these guys and learn more about what’s driving them to build the Team Never Quit initiative.

“For me this isn't about ammo. It just so happens that ammo is a great product for what we’re trying to achieve,”says KC Betzold. “Doing something that bigger than ourselves, doing it for the country, and doing it through products is an important thing to us. We have other veterans on our team as well. It’s a struggle when you come out of the service. What do you do? For us, this is part of giving back.”

Ammo is just the starting point. With Betzold’s professional ammunition production background and plenty of drive from Scobell and Luttrell, the trio has launched a new line of ammunition for training, self-defense, competition and hunting. The first loads are frangible training and frangible hollow point designs. Available now in .380 ACP, 9mm, .40 S&W, 10mm and .45 ACP, additional calibers will be forthcoming.

Project co-founder Pete Scobell adds, “The idea is that you’re never good enough, and you can always be better. You can make everything a little bit better, and that’s how we live our lives. That’s the attitude we want to take forward into the ammunition line.”

Through December 31, 2015, $.05 from every box of Team Never Quite ammunition will be donated to the Lone Survivor Foundation benefitting wounded veterans and their families.

As the founders continue to live by the SEAL Creed, we’re betting this company will be around a long time. “I will never quit. My nation expects me to be physically harder and mentally stronger than my enemies. If knocked down I will get back up, every time.”
