My Hooter Shooter tells me almost any modern compound bow is a potential tack driver. My experience with a bow in hand tells me some bows are easier to shoot accurately than are others, and Prime’s new Rival is a case in point. Prime’s unique Parallel Cam system may be the reason – it makes for a very solid, low-torque shooting platform. The new PCXL Cam at the heart of the Rival offers adjustable letoff from 65 percent (for maximum speed) to 85 percent (for maximum comfort). No doubt Prime’s super-strong 7000 series aluminum riser (in one video, it’s shown lifting a pick-up truck) adds to the stability as well. For 2015 the riser has been redesigned to be even lighter while remaining what Prime describes as “the strongest riser in the industry.” Also new for 2015 is the torque-reducing Flexis-AR cable guard system, which can be adjusted to provide optimal fletching clearance. The new Ghost Grip is comfortable but very narrow; an optional full grip is available. At 340 fps, the Rival is plenty fast. The brace height is 6.25 inches and its 35-inch axle-to-axle rating promises balance. Mass weight is 4.3 pounds, draw lengths run from 26 to 30 inches and peak draw weights are 40, 50, 60 and 70 pounds. Finishes include Realtree Xtra, GORE OPTIFADE Concealment Open Country, Blackout, Ice Blue, Red Hot and Gamma Green. The price of the Rival, depending on color, ranges between $999 and $1049.
