Tip for skipping baitcaster

Doug Chapin is a U.S. Army veteran (multiple deployments in the Middle East) and professional bass fisherman from Wisconsin. In the 1.5-minute Facebook video below, he shares an excellent tip for learning how to skip with a baitcasting reel. The same tip could be used for someone who’s simply learning the proper thumb tension for making a standard cast with a baitcaster. This tip also works great for teaching kids to use a baitcasting reel.

As you’ll see, all you’ll need is a 4-inch-long piece of electrical tape, with a slit cut through the end of it. By reducing the amount of line available to make a skip, or a cast, it’s much easier to avoid a dreaded backlash. And depending on the severity of the backlash, it could save the user an entire spool of line, which these days can be crazy expensive!

Great tip, Doug, and from all of us at Grand View Outdoors, THANK YOU for your service to our country!

P.S.: Be sure to turn up the volume for best viewing.
