Coach Prime fishing pic

Sports fans like me who watched the NFL and the MLB in the 1990s saw Deion Sanders in his prime. His nicknames back in the day were Prime Time and Neon Deion. And yes, he was insanely good at football (he’s in the NFL Hall of Fame) and outstanding in baseball, too. Today, Deion is known as Coach Prime because he’s the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes football program (University of Colorado Boulder).

Deion grew up in Fort Myers, Florida, and attended Florida State University in Tallahassee, and it was during his youth that he fell in love with bass fishing. His passion for bass fishing continues to this day, as evidenced by the two videos below.

In the first, Deion has a small bass on the line, but it’s hung up on a deadfall in the water, and he’s asking for advice. The reason I’m highlighting the video here isn’t because of the fish’s size. What I like about the video is Deion's authentic reaction when landing the bass. Think about it: Here’s a guy with crazy-money, and yet he’s still thrilled to catch a bass. “Bassin’ Prime!” I love it!

Coach Prime likes to post on his social media, and he recently wrote: “I catch BASS! I may drive thru Louisiana next week to the Super Bowl and I wanna stop at 2 PRIVATE LAKES TO GO CATCHING. Who has PRIVATE LAKES on my path to NEW ORLEANS from Canton, Texas? I’m Coming!”

P.S. In the 1-minute YouTube video below, Travis Hunter is fishing from shore on Deion’s private lake in Texas. Hunter was one of Deion’s players for the Colorado Buffaloes in 2024, and won the Heisman Trophy. He played both cornerback and wide receiver. LIke his coach, Hunter loves to fish for largemouth bass. Check out the tank that he catches from Deion's "Lake Prime" — huge!
