Ott DeFoe is a veteran professional bass angler who competes on the Major League Fishing tour, and he’s a former Bassmaster Classic champion (2019). In addition to traveling the country to compete in bass tournaments, DeFoe does an outstanding job posting educational fishing content on YouTube. Some of my favorite videos from his playlist are found in his Technique of the Month series; click here to check it out.

In the 9-minute Technique of the Month video below for August, DeFoe explains why the evening bite during late summer can be the best time to be out on the water — by far!

I’m highlighting this video because I couldn’t agree more. Due to working jobs with regular hours Monday through Friday, many bass anglers — me included — can only get out on the water for a few hours prior to sunset. As DeFoe explains, this is the perfect time to catch bass.

I’ve had some fantastic August bass fishing in the evening. DeFoe doesn’t cover this topic in his video, but the number of recreational boaters drops off dramatically in the couple hours before sunset, and this greatly increases my enjoyment on the water.

Fall will be here before you know it, so make it a point to target some late-day bass this August. The fish are biting!
