Bassmaster Elite pro Trey McKinney, who recently turned 19, is the youngest person angler to ever qualify for the Bassmaster’s highest level of competition, and last weekend he won a 4-day event on Lake Fork, Texas, with an astonishing total of 20 bass for 130 pounds, 15 ounces. During competition on day No. 2, McKinney is in the process of landing a 5-pound bass, and as he reaches to grab the fish by its bottom lip, he’s shocked to see that the fish has not one but two jerkbaits in its mouth, and the second one is his, too!
As McKinney explains in the YouTube video, about an hour before this 5-pounder was caught, he lost a bass shortly after setting the hook. He never saw that bass and it broke his line. McKinney becomes the youngest winner on the Bassmaster Elite tour, and he’s currently leading the pack (103 anglers) in the season-long Angler of the Year competition.
