During the recent Bassmaster Elite event on famed Lake Fork in Texas, local angler Lee Livesay (pronounced liv-a-see), who guides on the large body of water when he isn’t traveling to distant B.A.S.S. tournaments, had a championship day for the ages. His final day limit of five bass weighed 42 pounds, 3 ounces, which ranks as the third-heaviest, single-day weight in Bassmaster history. Over the course of four days, Livesay registered an incredible 112 pounds, 5 ounces (20 bass). The first place check was $100,000. He topped second-place angler Patrick Walters by 10 pounds.
Livesay focused his attention on secondary points in Little Caney Creek where largemouth were chasing large gizzard shad. His best spot was a small island that featured a shallow underwater bar. In the video below, you’ll see his first big bass on championship day from that spot; the fish weighed 9 pounds, 2 ounces. Listen closely to the video and you’ll hear him question whether he’s actually hooked two bass at the same time.
During his epic final day, Livesay caught his bass on a bone-colored Heddon Saltwater Super Spook (below). Part of the legendary Zara Spook family of topwater lures, the 5-inch Saltwater Super Spook features three super-sharp saltwater grade hooks and hardware. With this lure’s proven walk-the-dog action, Livesay enticed surface strikes from bass in water as shallow as 1 foot.
