Officials Set Up Traps, Catch Bear In New Jersey Cemetery

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. (AP) — Authorities have trapped a black bear after they spotted it in a northern New Jersey cemetery.

NJ.com reports the black bear was spotted at noon on Sunday. Bloomfield Mayor Michael Venezia says the bear appeared in a tree at a cemetery.

State authorities were called to capture the bear. But they wouldn't tranquilize it because of how far the bear was up in a tree.

They set up traps instead and caught it early Sunday evening.

Venezia says the animal wasn't harmed and is being taken to a place more “suitable for a bear.”
