SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Preliminary totals show Illinois hunters harvested 3 percent more deer this firearm season compared with last year's season.
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources say deer hunters harvested about 76,500 deer during the seven-day traditional firearm season that ended Sunday. That's up from about 74,300 deer harvested during the 2013 firearm season.
State officials say 58 counties saw an increase of deer killed. In 41 counties there was a slight decrease. One county remained the same.
The top counties in the state were Pike County with 2,163 deer taken and Jackson County with 2,114 deer taken.
