BOONVILLE, N.Y. (AP) — State police say a central New York man is recovering after he accidentally shot himself in the thigh while hoisting his deer rifle to a tree stand in northern Oneida County.
Troopers say 20-year-old Marc Donahue of Rome was hunting in the woods in Boonville Tuesday when the accident happened. Troopers say Donahue was tying his rifle to a rope hanging down from the tree when a round discharged.
Donahue was flown to Upstate Medical Center for treatment.
Regular deer hunting season runs from Oct. 26 to Dec. 8 in New York's northern zone and Nov. 16 to Dec. 8 in the southern zone.
