SOCIAL CIRCLE, Ga. (AP) — Georgia Department of Natural Resources officials say the Oconee Wildlife Management Area has grown by nearly 1,400 acres.
Department spokeswoman Melissa Cummings says the department added three tracts of land to the roughly 4,800 wildlife area in Greene and Hancock Counties. The wildlife area is halfway between Atlanta and Augusta.
Georgia Wildlife Resources Division Director Dan Forster says hunters will now have more opportunities to pursue deer, turkey and small game in the expanded area.
Officials say hunters may continue using archery equipment to pursue deer until Jan. 1. Small game hunting runs through Feb. 28.
