BARNSTABLE, Mass. (AP) — Bail has been set at $4,000 for a deer hunter who police said shot a man who was running in the woods with his dog.
Sean Houle pleaded not guilty Tuesday to several charges including causing serious injury with a hunting weapon. The 47-year-old Marston Mills man told police he fired a black powder rifle at what he thought was a herd of running deer in a Barnstable conservation area on Monday.
Thirty-nine-year-old Jonathan Way said he was out for a run when he heard the shots. He was treated at a hospital for pellet wounds to his hand and upper back.
Way told police he yelled to the hunter to stop shooting and that Houle came over and apologized.
Way said he was lucky that his injuries weren't more serious.
