It’s not Monday Night Football, but the Alabama legislature is still a very important audience for Hank Williams Jr.

The music legend and outdoorsman recently appeared before a group of lawmakers to stump for a bill that would repeal state law restricting corn or bait in deer hunting.

Williams contends the law isn’t needed and sometimes having bait is beneficial. He pointed to hunting with children or injured veterans as instances where baiting would be useful.

The bill’s sponsor, Sen. Tom Whatley, noted that deer cost millions in land and material damage.

This is the fifth time Whatley has brought the measure up. With the legendary Williams by his side there’s a good chance it passes this time around.

If passed, baiting restrictions on feral hogs would also be lifted. However, turkey-baiting rules would still apply.

Notably, The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is not taking a public position on the matter.

The bill has passed a committee and is scheduled for debate in the Senate.
