Coyote to be taken to unpopulated area

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A coyote was safely caught Monday inside the garage of a state office building in downtown Jackson.

The coyote was first spotted about 6 a.m. It was lying near elevators on the fourth floor of the Woolfolk State Office Building when state wildlife officers and Capitol police caught the animal and put it in a cage by about 10 a.m.

Wildlife officials say the coyote appeared to be 1 or 2 years old and likely didn't pose a threat to anyone.

Wildlife officials say the coyote will now be released away from populated areas.

Wildlife officials say it's not uncommon to find coyotes living alongside people because they readily adapt to their surroundings.
