RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — For people who go hunting with bows and arrows, the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission has some safety tips.
Huntingeducation coordinator Travis Casper says safety considerations for using a crossbow, longbow or compound bow are similar to other hunting methods.
Casper said hunters should always point the crossbow, longbow, compound bow in a safe direction. He said hunters should only release an arrow after positively identifying their target and what's beyond it, and he adds never use a scope to identify a target, but use binoculars instead.
The commission's “Home From The Hunt” campaign also tells hunters never to carry a bow with a notched arrow, load a crossbow only when in a fixed hunting position, and keep fingers and thumb below the rail of a crossbow at all times.
