As editor of the Grand View Outdoors website, I keep an eye on the fishing tournament scene for content I think outdoorsmen and women will find interesting. One example that immediately comes to mind was the story I wrote titled, “Video: Cheating Scandal Rocks Tournament Walleye World.” Click here to check it out — including the insane “We got weights in fish!” video.
When it comes to freshwater fishing tournaments, bass is No. 1 by a wide margin. While local bass derbies don’t involve big money, the major national events are big business. And that is the basis for this latest scam story with a new tournament organization called Dual Threat Fishing.
In the 3-minute video below from James Biggs Fishing’s YouTube channel, James explains how he and his partner finished in third place at the recent Lake Okeechobee event put on by Dual Threat Fishing, won $17,000, and what happened with his bank and the tournament check.
The tournament bass fishing community is going crazy right now trying to digest what took place and what happens from here. If you want to learn more about this unbelievable story, I suggest watching these three YouTube videos:
- Dieter Melhorn Fishing channel; 12-minute video; Dieter does a good job summarizing the entire scandal from the beginning. It’s a complicated scam!
- Get Ur Fish On channel; 10-minute video; Host Steve Chapman provides insight on the scam and why he believes it’s bigger than the famed “We got weights in fish!” scandal that rocked the walleye fishing tournament world.
- Scott Martin channel; 15-minute video: Scott provides a unique perspective on Dual Threat Fishing because he and his daughter fished the event, and his family’s marina on Lake Okeechobee was used as tournament headquarters. He’s calling it a $1.5 million scam.
Law enforcement is now involved, and I’ll update this bizarre story when more information is made available.
