I’m certainly not an elitist when it comes to fishing. In the past 50 years, I’ve spent hundreds and hundreds of hours on a muddy river bank targeting carp, catfish suckers and anything else that will bite a nightcrawler or chunk of cut bait. Maybe that’s why I appreciate the video — I’d call it a film — highlighted below. Here’s the text that accompanied the Facebook post:
“A two-minute montage of without doubt, one of the best. A dinosaur of a carp, wrinkled, old and black as you like. Sunken rounded scales that give it the name 'Coins', a very special character and one never to be forgotten. A deserved special moment for Luke, what a carp.”
Yes, what a carp. And I certainly understand the angler’s passion and pursuit for this special fish. I’m on a similar mission in my home state of Minnesota, for crappies and largemouth bass. My dream is to catch a 3-pound crappie and a 7-pound bass — those are high hurdles for Minnesota on heavily fished public waters. Every week I’m out there trying.
If I achieve my goal, will I give the monster crappie or bass a thank you goodbye kiss as is done in this film? I don’t think so; I’ve always thought that gesture was cheesy. Will I be overwhelmed? Sure. Heck, maybe I’ll even tear up.
I hope you have a fishing passion — regardless of species — as strong as the one showcased in this film.
