Jimmy Riley, property manager at Giles Island in Natchez, Miss., arrowed this monster buck October 1 while filming an episode of Mossy Oak Deer Thugs. It green-scored at 180 6/8" and weighed over 200 pounds.
Giles Island is a unique piece of property located west of Natchez, Mississippi. Bordered on the east by the mighty Mississippi and to the north, south, and west by a canal; the water forms a natural barrier between 9,000-acre wildlife sanctuary and hunting pressures on outside properties.
Many people have been worried how the record rainfall and subsequent Mississippi River flooding would affect deer in the region. According to Jimmy, many of the deer left the island seeking refuge on higher elevation areas but have returned quicker than he has ever seen in the past. Well, it seems as though Jimmy is right. The buck, known to the guides as BTL Buck, was captured on game cameras during the 2010-2011 season in the exact area Jimmy harvested it on October 1. Seems as though when a buck likes an area, not even flood will keep it away for long.
